One of the best-loved seasonal traditions is pumpkin picking. Our mid-wales parks are close to Panthwylog Pumpkins, which alongside pumpkin picking offers crafts, games, marshmallow toasting. If you’re staying at Fishguard or Grondre then you can stop by Pembrokeshire Pumpkins, or if you’re further North at ParcFarmBellis Brothers is a 40-minute drive away.

Take your time wandering through the fields, enjoying the fresh air and taking in the autumn scenery. Children love the experience of choosing their own pumpkin, and it makes for a fantastic photo opportunity. Once you're back at your cosy caravan or lodge, why not continue the fun by hosting a family carving competition?

Ramble & Scramble adventure trails

If you’re looking for a great day out for the whole family, the Ramble & Scramble trails in South West Wales are an excellent choice. These child-friendly trails are perfect for exploring the stunning coastline and countryside, with a mix of easy rambles and more adventurous scrambles. You’ll find routes suitable for all ages and abilities, making it a fun challenge for kids and adults alike.

Dragon’s Breath at the National Botanic Garden of Wales

If you’re looking for a unique spooky seasonal event, head to the National Botanic Garden of Wales for the mesmerising Dragon’s Breath (Anadl y Ddraig) experience. This immersive light and sound installation takes place on the 24th - 27th of October, transforming the garden into a magical wonderland after dark. Follow the illuminated trail as you journey through gardens lit up with fiery reds, oranges, and blues, evoking the mythical Welsh dragon.

This is a perfect evening outing for families, children will love the enchanting atmosphere, while adults can appreciate the beauty of the garden in a new light. The event brings a magical twist to autumn nights, offering a truly memorable experience. Be sure to book tickets in advance as it’s a popular attraction.

Enjoy a cosy autumn woodland walk

Wales is home to some of the most beautiful woodland walks, and this is the perfect season to explore them. Devil’s Bridge Falls offers a dramatic landscape of cascading waterfalls and ancient woodland and is a stone’s throw from Clarach Bay. The nature trail is a scenic circular walk that takes you through deep gorges and across historic bridges, with the autumn colours making the experience even more spectacular.

For a gentler stroll, head to the Llanerchaeron National Trust woods (near Gilfach) or the Cwmtydu and Afon Soden Circular (not far from Ocean Heights). Both routes are perfect for families and offer the chance to enjoy the seasonal beauty of the woodland, spotting wildlife such as Cuckoos, Green Woodpeckers and European Otters along the way. Explore Bodnant Garden

Located in North Wales, Bodnant Garden is a stunning National Trust property that comes alive with colour in autumn and is well worth the 1-hour drive from ParcFarm. Famous for its sweeping lawns, grand terraces, and an impressive collection of plants from around the world, Bodnant Garden is a must-visit for anyone staying in the area during the season.

The garden’s arboretum is particularly spectacular in October, as the trees turn vibrant shades of red, gold, and amber. There’s also the famous Laburnum Arch, which offers a breathtaking sight. Stroll through the grounds or join a seasonal event, it’s a wonderful way to experience Wales' natural beauty and fresh autumn air.
 

Get spooked with the Tenby ghost walk

An October holiday wouldn’t be complete without a few spooky tales, and the Tenby Ghost Walk delivers just that. As the nights grow darker, explore the haunted history of this picturesque seaside town with an atmospheric ghost walk. Just a half an hour’s drive from Woodland Vale, this evening walk is suitable for all ages, though be prepared for a few spine-tingling moments. Plus, Tenby looks particularly stunning under the autumnal moon!

Autumn events at Vale

Clarach Bay's autumn festivities are kicking off with some exciting events. The festivities commence on October 26th with the highly anticipated best-dressed caravan competition, followed by pumpkin carving, arts and crafts, and a spooky ghost walk. The excitement continues on November 2nd with the glamorous Vale Christmas party, ending the season with a bang with a dazzling firework display that will light up the night sky.

If you're staying at Grondre, join in the Halloween arts and crafts on 26th October, followed by pumpkin carving on the 31st and a fun-filled end-of-season party. Ocean Heights is also hosting a Halloween party on 26th October, a Christmas end-of-season party with Santa's Grotto and panto on 9th November, and an adults-only night with a drag queen and comedian on 16th November. 

Meanwhile, head to ParcFarm for a spooky party on 26th October and a festive Christmas market on 16th November. Finally, Woodland Vale is offering arts and crafts on 26th October, pumpkin carving on 31st, and a party to round off the season on 2nd November.
